Private beta copy of next Windows Live Messanger leaked

According to this article at Ars Technica a copy of the next Windows Live Messanger software (v9 if you’re keeping score) has been leaked and is spilling all over.

The beta was intended to be private and only limited to 5,000 individuals were invited by Microsoft to participate in the beta testing.

If you see it floating by you on the Internet, my advice is avoid it for two reasons:

  1. It’s a private beta and if you weren’t invited, just let it be. You’ll have a chance to use it later when some of the local and network bugs have been [hopefully] worked out.
  2. It’s not expected to be released publicly until late 2008 or early 2009. That’s a long way off from now–don’t expect it to be in anywhere near final shape right now. Using it right now could be a very frustrating experience.
