My very first PC was made by Everex…it was a 386SX that I bought used and the very same day I swapped the motherboard and CPU, choosing a 486DX (HAD to have the math co-processor).
Everex went away for a while, but recently re-appeared with the $200 Walmart PC running the Linux-based gOS operating system.
What’s next for Everex? Looks like it’s a small form factor laptop named “Cloudbook”.
Small, inexpensive laptops seem to be all the rage right now. The existing models that come to mind are:
The specs of the upcoming Cloudbook are expected to be:
- 1.2GHz Via C7 processor
- 30GB hard drive (not flash storage as in the Eee PC)
- 512MB of RAM
- 7-inch screen
- wired and wireless networking
- 4-in-1 card reader
- 1.3 megapixel webcam
Final specs won’t be known until early January, 2008, most likely at or just before CES (Consumer Electronics Show) beginning on January 7, 2008.
A developer version is also expected that will have, among other things, a touchscreen but not much is known about the developer version at this point.
UPDATE: Everex has announced a release date of January 25, 2008. For more information, check out this post.
