Arriving a day earlier than expected, the latest firmware update for Sony’s Playstation 3 is available (version 2.1) for download using your PS3’s system update feature.
Some of the biggest changes include:
- Support for the DivX codec
- Support for WMV playback
- Blu-ray update to the final 1.1 specification*
- A voice changer that can change the pitch of your voice during a chat
* = The update to the Blu-ray specification to 1.1 wasn’t actually mentioned in the on-screen list of changes when I started the upgrade on my PS3, but I’ve seen it mentioned in so many places as something that this was to be included in the 2.1 update that I included it in the list. I’ll update this post again once I have more info about whether it’s here or not.
UPDATE: Looks like the upgrade to the final Blu-ray specification (1.1) is for real (thanks, Electronista).
