Starting the weekend before Christmas, 2007, some Xbox LIVE users began experiencing trouble connecting.
Microsoft said that they found and fixed that problem, but trouble surfaced again on Christmas eve and continue off and on even today, December 28, 2007.
Maybe you got a new Xbox 360 for Christmas that you can’t get connected to Xbox LIVE, or maybe you’ve had your system for a while but lately things seem flaky.
There’s a good chance it’s not your setup–Microsoft is aware they have a problem on their end and they’re working on it.
To check the status of Xbox LIVE anytime, go to http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/ and in the upper right of the page you’ll see an “Xbox LIVE Service Status” area and below that the current status of the network.
If there’s a problem it will show up here.
What is Xbox LIVE?
For those that don’t know, Xbox LIVE is a digital service created by Microsoft for their Xbox and Xbox 360 consoles to allow them to play games against other players, download things like game demos, television shows, movies, etc.
UPDATE: Just checked the Xbox LIVE support page and it looks like things have been fixed, so if you’ve been having trouble go ahead and try again.
UPDATE 2: Okay, it’s having trouble again and this time I’m affected. Crap.
UPDATE 3: Just past midnight now on the west coast on Sunday, December 30, 2007, and things seem to be back to normal now.
UPDATE 4: Okay, now it’s almost 6pm on the west coast on December 30, 2007, and more trouble for Xbox LIVE. I think I’m going to have to stop updating this post or it seems I’ll never be able to stop babysitting it. If you want to check the status of Xbox LIVE, flip a coin (kidding) or check the Xbox LIVE support page. I can’t wait to find out what exactly has been going on with LIVE…I’ve never seen it so unstable.
UPDATE 5: Still up-and-down 13 days later, but Microsoft is saying they’re sorry with a free game from Xbox LIVE Arcade. For more info, check out this post.
