Glubble helps parents with Internet surfing kids avoid the bad stuff

There are a lot of really informative and entertaining things on the Internet, but if you’re a parent there are some things you probably want to keep your kids away from.

There’s already some software on the market that can help, but typically the way they work is to block the ones that are known bad so you have to make sure to keep it up-to-date.

Not a bad approach, but a new tool called Glubble has an approach that I’m more interested in.

Glubble is built on the very popular Firefox web browser and uses something called white list to keep surfing G-rated.

What is a white list?

Most often I’ve seen white list used when talking about email. A black list is a list of known bad sites, while a white list is a list of known good sites. Some people use white lists to block spam by only accepting email from people in their white list.

Glubble uses a white list to only allow kids to browse to sites that are known good and it comes with a predefined white list of sites. Parents can even share their white lists with other parents.

Search results are filtered too, so if your child were to do a Google search the results that would be returned would only contain those sites in your white list.

Pretty neat approach and its available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
