What is Amazon Prime?
![]()
Maybe I’m just out of the loop, but I’ve never known what Amazon Prime is. Sure, I’d kinda half-way notice it mentioned on Amazon’s webpage, but I’d never bothered to actually click on it.
I guess I assumed it was a credit card so I ignored it until today.
Turns out it’s actually not a credit card, its a program offered by Amazon to give huge discounts on shipping in exchange for paying a reasonable annual fee.
What kind of shipping discount?
Free 2-day shipping or $3.99 overnight shipping for anything you order with no minimums.
How much is the membership?
They’re offering a 30-day free trial and after that its $79 per year.
If you think about how much you can save with Amazon’s pricing over most online and brick-and-mortar retailers, plus the discounted shipping, Amazon Prime sounds like a really good deal to me.

I signed up for the Amazon prime 30 day trial last year around this time and then forgot to cancel and paid the $79- which actually paid off at the holidays this year as I did not have to pay for two day shipping on anything I bought for the holidays. I like the fact I can buy whatever I want and not have to worry about spending $25 per order. One thing- used merchandise is not eligible for Amazon prime so you have to buy your books and dvds from Amazon without using their extensive seller network.
Here’s a good website to search Amazon Prime items only: http://www.amazanian.com
