This is just a rumor at this point, but the Financial Times is reporting that Paramount is preparing to use a “get out” clause in its HD DVD exclusivity deal to switch to the Blu-ray camp instead.
As you might remember, Paramount was support both formats until this past August when Paramount and Dreamworks signed on to support HD DVD exclusively.
If this ends up being true, will the HD DVD group have any chance left of survival?
Maybe they could throw their money into developing next-gen DVR’s that can archive to HD DVD’s? I don’t know…something…I really like the format and would hate to see it die.
UPDATE: Paramount has officially responded to the rumor and denied it…I suppose time will tell if its really not true or they just weren’t ready to announce it yet.
