Most people with an iPhone are very excited to get their hands on the next firmware update–lots of goodies are expected. The way software has a way of leaking out early onto the Internet, seeing a file called “iPhone firmware 1.1.3 prep” or “113 prep” can easily increase your blood pressure.
Could the latest firmware have leaked out early?
Possibly, but this file isn’t it.
So maybe its a way to prepare an iPhone for the 1.1.3 firmware update so its ready?
No.
Why would a device need to be prepped before a firmware update? They don’t–the file is a Trojan.
If you have not used a jailbreak on your iPhone, this trojan poses little threat.
If you HAVE used a jailbreak on your phone, installing the app won’t seem to do much. BUT, uninstalling it will remove a lot of files from the /bin folder on your iPhone, which is also where a lot of the other apps you’ve installed reside.
Examples of some things that will be removed are Erica’s Utilities, OpenSSH, Launcher, and Doom.
If you’re desperate for 1.1.3, that makes two of us. Do yourself a favor and wait until next week when Macworld opens and hopefully the real 1.1.3 will show up for all of us.
UPDATE: The real 1.1.3 firmware is out! Click here for more info.
