
No stranger to battling over formats, Sony has announced that their new wireless spec they’re calling TransferJet will be taking on W-USB (wireless USB) and Bluetooth 3.0 as a short-range wireless format.
Some of Sony’s proposed formats have not done quite so well (e.g. BetaMax, UMD, MiniDisc, HiFD), while others (Blu-ray) are doing very well.
The TransferJet spec is designed for low power consumption and ease of use, with Sony’s vision being the ability for any two devices to be able to wirelessly exchange data just by holding them hear one another.
We’ll see how this war shapes up over the next few months…
