The Macworld keynote is over, did you get what you wanted?

macbook_airAt 9:14am today Steven Jobs took the stage and the keynote officially began.

Lets run through what was announced:

  • Updated Airport Extreme Base Station with built-in hard drive (500GB version for $299 or 1TB version for $499) called “Time Capsule” for backing up from Leopard with Time Machine application.
  • iPhone SDK releasing in February.
  • iPhone 1.1.3 firmware released (see here for the features).
  • iPod Touch software update to add Mail, Stocks, Notes, Weather and Maps…for $20. Why it isn’t free I’m not sure.
  • iTunes movie rentals from Touchstone, Miramax, MGM, Lionsgate, Newline, Fox, WB, Disney, Paramount, Universal and Sony.
    • Movies can be downloaded and watched on Mac’s, PC’s, iPods and iPhones.
    • New releases for $3.99
    • Older titles for $2.99
    • HD rentals are $4.99
    • Once download you will have 30-days to watch the rental before it expires, and once you have started watching it you have 24-hours to finish it.
  • Updated Apple TV software, able to rent videos directly from iTunes, including some in HD and with 5.1 audio.
  • Price drop of least expensive model Apple TV from $299 to $229…the hardware seems to be the same.
  • MacBook Air introduced, the thinnest notebook around.
    • 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz Core2Duo with new, reduced die size–60% smaller, making it as wide as a dime and as thick as a nickel
    • 2GB RAM standard
    • 13.3-inch LED backlit screen with ambient light sensor
    • Wedge shaped, it ranges from 0.16-inch to 0.76-inch thick
    • Built-in iSight camera
    • Multi-touch trackpad
    • Magnetic latch
    • MagSafe power adaptor
    • 1x USB 2.0 port
    • 1x Micro-DVI port
    • 1x Audio Out
    • 1.8-inch hard drive available in 80GB standard hard drive or 64GB solid state hard drive
    • 802.11n + Bluetooth 2.1/EDR
    • Price starts at $1799, pre-orders start today and ships in 2 weeks

All in all not a bad keynote. I was really hoping for Leopard 10.5.2 to release today as well as new Cinema screens and maybe an updated Mac Mini, but the things that were announced were nice.

My personal favorites? The MacBook Air and iPhone 1.1.3 firmware.
