I haven’t personally experienced any problems with the 1.1.3 firmware update to the Apple iPhone, but apparently some users are noticing a few new problems (and not just GoPhone users).
Among the problems being reported are:
- An error message during or after installation of iTunes 7.6 and the 1.1.3 firmware
- Loss of sound output from the iPhone’s built-in speakers
- Bluetooth devices that worked with 1.1.2 no longer working
- Problems with the Mail application no longer downloading messages
iPhone Atlas has posted some possible fixes for these problems if you or someone you know are experiencing them here.
To quickly run through them:
Error messages during or after installation:
- Try updating iTunes to 7.6 again, then try the 1.1.3 firmware update again…OR….
- Put your iPhone into recover mode and restore it by following the steps here. If you do this, prepare for all of our data to be erased so if anything is important, write it down. Once the restore is complete, information that had been automatically backed up when you synced will be returned to your iPhone but do yourself a favor and write things down before you start.
Loss of sound:
- Try turning your iPhone off and on again…OR…
- Insert headphones into the audio jack, then remove them (might have to do this several times) and see if it helps.
Bluetooth device compatibility:
No possible fixes right now.
Mail problems:
Before you start trying to fix a mail problem, start with the simplest thing–are you connected to a Wi-Fi access point and when connected there do you have to accept any usage agreement before you can use it?
Public Wi-Fi access points will often have an agreement you have to accept from within your web browser before you are able to use their connection, so open Safari and try to go to any webpage. If you’re redirected to a portal asking you to accept a usage agreement before continuing, that’s your problem. Accept the usage agreement and thing should be fine.
If not…
- Try deleting the mail account you are having trouble with from Settings and add it again…OR…
- Reset your network settings by tapping Settings, General, Reset, and Reset Network Settings. Doing this will erase any stored Wi-Fi passwords, your DNS settings, etc., and restart your iPhone.
None of the tips in this post guarantee results, so your milage may vary. Good luck!
