German government spying on Skype users?

listening

According to Wikileaks, several documents from the German police reveal new Skype interception technology including interception boxes, key forwarding trojans and anonymous proxies to hide police communications.

The first document is a communication by the Ministry of Justice to the prosecutors office and discusses cost splitting for Skype interception.

The second document includes an offer by Digitask, a German company developing the Skype interception technology, and talks pricing, licensing, and product details.

So much for Skype privacy and security.

Apparently the way it works is that a trojan is installed onto a target machine and that is what handles intercepting voice and chat communication. That’s the simple version, of course.

News of this isn’t sitting too well with the German press.

Check out the full story (so far) here which includes a lot more details and document scans.
