Disney has announced that Toy Story and Toy Story 2 are being remade in 3D and released back into theaters beginning in 2009.
Working on the conversion is John Lasseter, director of Toy Story and Toy Story 2, and he promises that audiences will be “blown away”.
The original Toy Story is scheduled for release on October 2, 2009, with the sequel, Toy Story 2, expected on February 12, 2010.
Want more Toy Story?
Good, because Toy Story 3 is also in the works and is expected to be released on June 18, 2010, and will also be in 3D.
“With Toy Story 3 shaping up to be another great adventure for Buzz, Woody and the gang from Andy’s room, we thought it would be great to let audiences experience the first two films all over again and in a brand new way,” Lasseter said.
The 3D technology being used is called Disney Digital 3D and can only be displayed using digital projection. That might somewhat limit the number of theaters that will be able to show it, but the image quality should be amazing.
You will still need to wear dorky 3D glasses, but it should be worth it.
