Google’s Android SDK, full of both promise and frustration for developers, will soon be receiving a much needed update.
Some of the problems have been bugs, poor documentation, and no public issue-tracking system.
Quang Nguyen, Android Developer Advocate, says that changes have been made based on the feedback they have been receiving and that they have made “significant updates to the SDK that we’ll be releasing in several weeks.”
Because of the problems with the current SDK, the deadline for the $10 million Android Developer Challenge has been extended. The new timeline is:
April 14, 2008: Deadline to submit applications for judging (using whichever version of the SDK you’d like). Winners of the first round will receive $25k to help fund further development of their application.
May 5, 2008: Announcement of the 50 first round winners who will be moving on to the final round.
June 30, 2008: Deadline for 50 winners of the first round to submit their application for the final round.
July 21, 2008: Announcement of the grand prize winner and runner-up.
