Yahoo! considering alliance with Google, turning down Microsoft offer?

According to a source familiar with Yahoo’s strategy, management at Yahoo! is considering turning down Microsoft’s buyout offer and instead building an alliance with Google.

The source also said $31 per share (the per share breakdown of the $44.6 billion offer) is below what the actual value of the company is.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Google’s Eric Schmidt called Yahoo’s Jerry Yang to offer Google’s support to help thwart Microsoft’s bid.

That support would likely not include an alternative buyout offer from Google as the move would likely be blocked by antitrust regulators.

I can’t help but wonder how Yahoo! would survive if they turn down the Microsoft offer…
