The MacBook Air. Worshiped by some, slammed by others. Whether you love it or hate it, it is an interesting step back into the world of very portable notebook computers for Apple.
Ken Mingis, writing for Computerworld, was able to spend some time with Apple’s director of Portables Product Marketing, Todd Benjamin, to answer a few quesions.
Who is the MacBook Air a good fit for?
Benjamin says that the “MacBook air is designed for people who value portability…we make a lot of portable computers, but this one is designed for someone who’s going to take it from place to place all day long, [executives] going to meetings, students going from class to class, people who are going to commute from anywhere. It’s radically thin.”
Benjamin also stressed that the MacBook Air has a full-sized keyboard and the screen, at 13.3-inches, is larger than that of most competing ultra-portable notebook computers.
When asked about the lack of ports, Benjamin responded saying that Apple found that a lot of laptop users already had Bluetooth accessories, so the lack of ports basically won’t impact all that many people.
