On February 17th NBC brings Knight Rider back to the small screen in the form of a television movie.

Actor Will Arnett was to be the voice of KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand) and had finished recording all of his voice work, and then the plot twist came–Will Arnett has just been replaced by Val Kilmer.

Huh?

According to Slashfilm, the reason is because Arnett had previously done some voice work for General Motors commercials. Since KITT is now a Ford Mustang, his checkered past as a GM announcer was a deal breaker. Defamer backs up this story, adding that it was GM who approached Arnett and asked him to step down since Ford is co-producing the television movie with NBC.

“I was very excited at the prospect of playing the part of KITT in the new ‘Knight Rider’ movie,” Arnett said. “However, because of a long relationship with General Motors as the voice of GMC Trucks, I had to respectfully withdraw from the project.”

With two weeks left to go before the show airs, Val Kilmer will apparently be re-recording all of Arnett’s lines and they will be edited into the show…good luck.
