The Mobile World Congress expo in Barcelona has opened and a couple of companies are showing off new chips running Google’s Android mobile phone operating system.

Texas Instruments is showing off their 500MHz OMAP3430 multimedia applications processor running Android. There wasn’t any Internet connectivity but based on what was able to be tested things seemed very fast.

NEC/Wind River were showing off their own Android prototype platform running NEC’s Medity2 chipset also at 500MHz.

UPDATE: TechCrunch was able to spend a few moments playing with the TI hardware which was running the Android emulator. Check out a video here if you’re interested.
