Yesterday was a pretty rough day for HD DVD:
Netflix announced that they would be stocking Blu-ray titles moving forward and would be phasing out their stock of HD DVD discs by the end of this year.
Best Buy announced that it would be promoting Blu-ray as the HD disc format of the future.
What can the HD DVD Promotional Group do now? While they think that through they’ve issued a response:
“We have long held the belief that HD DVD is the best format for consumers based on quality and value, and with more than 1 million HD DVD players on the market, it’s unfortunate to see Netflix make the decision to only stock Blu-ray titles going forward. While the Best Buy announcement says they will recommend Blu-ray, at least they will continue to carry HD DVD and offer consumers a choice at retail.”
Sounds a little sad.
