New Star Wars animated feature ‘The Clone Wars’ coming to big screen, small screen

clone_warsUSA Today has confirmed that a new Stars Wars movie is hitting theaters this year, but it might not be what you’re thinking.

Yes, George Lucas is working on 3D versions of his films to be released beginning in 2010, but this movie is based on the popular ‘Clone Wars’ animated series from the Cartoon Network a few years ago and will be called ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’.

The new movie will be computer animated and will take place between Episodes II and III, where Anakin is not yet Darth Vader and the story will focus on the Clone War that began in Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

The movie is scheduled to be in theaters August 15th, and coming this fall the story will spin off into a new Clone Wars animated series to be aired on Cartoon Network and TNT.

It looks like it could be pretty good…but some of the CGI looks a bit simple compared to what we’re used to with computer animated features from the likes of Pixar, so we’ll see. I guess its really the character models I have a problem with. The ships, backgrounds, robots, etc. all look great.
