SquareTrade, a company that deals in selling warranties for electronics, decided to look at a pool of just over 1,000 warranty claims for Xbox 360 consoles. What did they find as a failure rate? 16.4% of Xbox 360’s fail, and 60% of those failed with the infamous red ring of death.
Is that worse than other consoles?
Yes, a lot worse.
To help put that number into perspective, Sony Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii consoles have roughly a 3% failure rate.
Steve Abernethy, SquareTrade CEO, said, “it is reasonable to believe these failure rates will increase over time, since the Xbox 360 failure issues tend to increase with prolonged use where overheating appears the main culprit.”
All the noise the fans make and STILL it runs too hot?
