Microsoft lowers price of Vista

Microsoft has lowered the price of higher end versions of its Vista operating system to try and make it more appealing to consumers.

The move seems to only effect the upgrade versions, and only those sold at retail locations.

In the US market the new pricing is:

Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade: $219 (down from $299)
Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade: $129 (down from $159)

Why the change?

Brad Brooks, Windows consumer marketing vice president at Microsoft, says that they have been testing lower prices over the past few months and found that the decreased revenue per item sold was made up for in the quantity of items sold.
