
The US division of i-mate located in Redmond, Washington, had a busy day Friday laying off the entire engineering, QA and tech writing departments (among others).
Chief Software Officer and VP of Sales and Marketing are also both gone, with the sales director set to be promoted to GM of everything.
The problem was difficulty getting their Ultimate line of smartphones into retail in a timely fashion, not to mention trouble hooking up with a US carrier.
i-mate isn’t going away, but they are trimming their US operations to just what they need to keep a web-store open where they’ll be selling unlocked devices directly.
