When movie rentals was in the Apple iTunes Store was announced the press release said that there would be over 1,000 titles by the end of February and over 100 in high definition with 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound.
Yes, there are standard and high definition movies available for rent in iTunes, but not quite as many as were promised.
91 movies are available for rent in HD, but not all of them feature 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound. As for the total count of movies available, that varies a bit depending how you search.
If you check iTunes for rentals from your computer you’ll find 378 available. If you use iTunes’ Power Search feature you’ll find 399 titles available.
Still not bad for having just launched, just a bit off from what Apple themselves was expecting.
