Woz talks iPhone, MacBook Air, Apple TV

woz_appleThe Sydney Morning Herald recently had a chance to chat with Steve Wozniak (aka ‘Woz’ ) about the iPhone. What does he think about it?

“To tell you the truth I was really disappointed when the iPhone was introduced … half the phones in the AT&T store at the time were 3G phones … I was shocked because Apple is bringing the full internet [to mobiles] … and it’s not 3G.”

Woz is still technically an Apple employee and shareholder, but said that he doesn’t know when a 3G version of the iPhone will be introduced.

When asked about the MacBook Air, which has been knocked for the lack of an internal DVD drive, Ethernet port, relatively small hard drive, and the inability for users to replace the battery, Woz had to agree.

“I don’t think it’s going to be a hit…I don’t feel it’s a benefit if you have to carry the Air plus a DVD player plus a couple of extra dongles to connect to Ethernet things and also maybe an extra hard disk to carry your music - but still there’s a pureness about it and really I like it.”

When asked about the Apple TV, Woz’s only real complaints seemed to be about the low quality of YouTube videos and the 24-hour time limit for rented movies once they begin playing.

“My life is way too global and unpredictable for that [24-hour time limit] - I’ll get interrupted by something and I won’t finish it; I don’t want to have to pay again.”
