Toshiba and HD DVD: Warner leaving was the end

atsutoshi_nishidaThe Wall Street Journal had a chance to speak with Toshiba CEO Atsutoshi Nishida about HD DVD, who admitted that once Warner left the format there was no chance of it surviving.

“I don’t think we stood a chance once Warner left,” said Nishida.

While the company will continue to sell DVD players and HDTV’s, there was no mention of any plans to adopt the Blu-ray standard themselves. He did, however, mention that his company may want to play a role in the video-downloading market.
