Dell says high failure rate of SSDs not true
Yesterday a report from Avian Securities came out claiming that up to 20% of SSDs are failing. The “large computer manufacturer” whose data was used for that report was thought by some to be Dell, but Dell’s firing back saying it’s not them and it’s not true.
Dell Chief Blogger Lionel Menchaca said, “the 20 - 30% failure and return rates cited by Avian Securities don’t even vaguely resemble what’s happening in our business…It’s also true that Avian did not contact us while doing their research. Said another way, it’s just not true.”
According to Dell’s own internal studies, the “vast majority” of SSDs chosen for Dell systems are more reliable than typical hard drives, largely because of the lack of moving parts.
No arguing with the fact that current SSDs are slower than traditional hard drives in some read and write operations, but as for SSDs being less reliable it looks like that’s just not true.
