
Chrysler said that it plans to be the first car maker to offer in-car Internet access.
Frank Klegon, product development chief at Chrysler, says that “we want to make the radio itself a WiFi port.”
The term “Wi-Fi port” isn’t one that I recall hearing before…I assume what they mean by that is that the radio will have a Wi-Fi router built-in that will be able to share a cellular data connection with several devices at once using Wi-Fi.
The functionality will be available as a dealer installed extra for existing models this year, and after that it will be an option that can be installed from the factory.
Not a lot seems to be known publicly about this offering yet..hopefully its something that has been thought out instead of just some marketing folks thought would be a good thing to add for no good reason.
