Skybus Airlines closes, third airline in a week

Wow, tough times for small airlines.

Skybus Airlines, the “Spirit of Columbus”, announced yesterday that it was closing down and would be filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday.

This makes Skybus the third airline to announce that they were closing this week, with the others being Aloha and ATA.

Anyone with tickets for any Skybus flights are advised to contact their credit card companies for info about how to [hopefully] get a refund. US Airways has also announced they would be trying to help Skybus customers by allowing them to fly standby for $50 each way.

There is a catch (of course): Anyone looking to take advantage of this offer from US Airways must complete their travel by April 11th and the standby tickets must be purchased through US Airways reservations at 800-428-4322.

The reason for Skybus closing? Rising fuel costs.
