Stanford University has announced a new program to invest in student ventures called SSE Ventures.
SSE (Stanford Student Enterprises) is a Stanford student association with several hundred employees and $13 million in assets. While still in its early stages, the new SSE Ventures plans to invest $50k or $100k into startups accepted into the new program and both undergraduate or graduate students will be able to apply.
Several other well-known companies have already been started by Stanford alumni, the most recognizable being Sun, Yahoo and Google. This is probably a smart move by Stanford who itself is quite found of money.
