Blu-ray sales low

After defeating HD DVD in the HD disc format wars in February it was easy to assume that Blu-ray sales would be free to take off.
Free to, yes. Take off? Not quite.
According to a NPD Group study, US sales of standalone Blu-ray players feel 40 percent from January to February, then increased just 2 percent in March.
The NPD concluded that consumers perceive little quality increase over standard DVDs and as a result aren’t willing to spend the money on it. Some of the slumping numbers could also be the result of a slowing economy as well as HD downloads offered by Microsoft on their Xbox 360 console and Apple with their Apple TV product.
