New Pentax Optio V20 includes smile and blink detection

The new Pentax Optio V20 point and shoot digital camera includes a couple of neat features I haven’t seen before: smile and blink detection.

The Smile Capture feature is an “evolved face recognition” and will automatically release the shutter when everyone is smiling.

The Blink Detection feature will let you know if any of your subjects had their eyes closed after a picture is taken so you’ll know if you should shoot it again.

Assuming these features work as advertised they sound pretty neat.

Other features of the Optio V20 include:

  • 8 megapixel sensor
  • 5x optical zoom plus digital zoom of 1x to 5.1x
  • 3-inch LCD with approx. 170 degree viewing angle
  • Shake Reduction automatically selects higher ISO
  • Panorama mode for automatically stitching a series of up to three photos together into one wide scene
  • Auto tracking auto focus
  • 52MB of built-in memory

For more info check out the product page here.

The camera is available now for around $250.
