According to Jacobs Digital Photo and Video, “there will be a big surprise on the 1st July 2008, a major supplier will be announcing a brand new SLR.”
If we accept for a moment that this is 100% true, it’s probably going to be one of these:
- Nikon D700
- Nikon D3x
- Canon 5D Mark II
We’ll find out for sure a week from Tuesday.
UPDATE: Mystery solved–looks like it was the Nikon D700. For more info about the D700 check out this post.

And it will cost 50% more in the UK than USA
Hi, Nikon D700 news is all over the place. But from what I understand, the model (dont know if it will be called the D700 yet) is not commercially ready yet. At least not for another 6 months. Although the buzz in the market seems to say otherwise.
Cheers!

Might also be a putative Canon 50D. Recently, they released a ~12 MP model underneath the 10 MP 40D, with a lot of the 40D’s amenities.
I’d buy a 50D in a heartbeat if they raised the usable ISO… hopefully reduced the noise as well.
